Recently, F&M Bank was notified by a third-party service provider, Fiserv, of a cyber incident that involved unauthorized access to F&M customer information in one of their file transfer applications. If you have not already, you will be receiving another letter regarding this incident from Fiserv, on our behalf. We wanted to further detail what happened, what this means for you, and how to protect your information.

On May 31, 2023, Progress Software Corporation announced it discovered a previously unknown vulnerability in its MOVEit file transfer technology, which is used by Fiserv and hundreds of organizations around the world. Fiserv provides payment processing, online banking and mobile banking services to F&M Bank.

Fiserv informed F&M on October 17, 2023 that because of the vulnerability discovered in May, unauthorized actors obtained Fiserv files transferred via MOVEit. These files included customer account numbers and bank routing numbers. To our knowledge, no other customer information was affected.

Importantly, the vulnerability discovered in MOVEit did not involve any F&M Bank systems and did not impact our ability to service customers.

Upon learning of this incident, we took immediate action to ensure that our vendor had launched a comprehensive investigation, identified individuals affected and notified regulatory bodies. We have been assured from Fiserv through their service provider that all system patches and remediation steps have been completed according to the MOVEit software provider's guidelines.

As referenced above and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, affected individuals are being sent a letter via U.S. mail notifying them of the impact, with instructions on how to enroll in complimentary credit monitoring services provided by Kroll. We have no evidence that your information has been misused. Out of an abundance of caution, we have secured Kroll to provide identity monitoring at no cost to you for two years.

Additionally, we understand if you would like to take the steps to change your account number with us. Please visit your local F&M office to do so. If you have additional questions, please contact our Customer Care team at 419.446.2501. Thank you for banking with us. We value our relationship and will continue to monitor and work closely with our supporting vendors to serve your financial needs.
